COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
In collaboration with local communities, we are breaking down barriers to success. We actively work to make Washington State a place where the African Diaspora community can achieve prosperity.
BLACK HOMEOWNERSHIP
In partnership with Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King & Kittitas Counties, we will develop and steward 65 new, permanently affordable homes across three sites on Martin Luther King Way S. in Seattle’s Rainier Valley. These projects are the first in ACHD’s and Habitat SKKC’s historic partnership to center Black homeownership and prosperity across multiple projects throughout Seattle and South King County. This project is part of the Rainer Valley Affordable Homeownership Initiative

CULTURAL ANCHOR VILLAGE
Representing the future of the African Diaspora immigrant and refugee community in King County and beyond, the Cultural Anchor Village will be designed by and for the community as a response to rampant displacement and a historic underinvestment in the African Diaspora community. The project is a manifestation of ACHDs mission and includes a combination of affordable, family-sized rental housing, wrap-around services, and extensive cultural resources, including an early learning facility. The project is being developed in partnership with Mercy Housing Northwest.

Inspired by our success with the Delridge and SeaTac Farmers Market, a permanent public market focused on entrepreneurs and small business owners from the immigrant and refugee community will open the door to long term prosperity. As part of ACHDs holistic economic development approach, the market will be coupled with low-cost workspaces, one-on-one mentorship, technical assistance, culturally specific support services, and advocacy to ensure the success of business owners and the community itself.
